WORUM GEHT ES?
The goal of the CRC 1342 “Global Dynamics of Social Policy” is to analyze, understand and explain the spread of social policies since 1880 globally. For this, social scientists collect and process heterogenous data ranging from tabular data to interviews with policy makers, mainly macro-comparative statistical data and (historical) text data though. Despite an established RDM in quantitative survey research, data sharing practices in the social sciences – and comparative welfare state research in particular – are just evolving.
In the first funding phase,
WeSIS – the Welfare State Information System – was designed in co-creation with and for the social scientists keeping the FAIR principles in mind. Achieving a mutual understanding among social and computer scientists led to a harmonization both in terms of the data itself, the documentation and storage and availability of the data that was and still is missing in welfare state research.
Turning into a dedicated Infrastructure Project, the focus in the second phase shifts to extending WeSIS’ functionalities while implementing a “three pillar” strategy along the entire data life cycle that takes all projects on board – regardless of their fit to WeSIS. In this talk, we will focus on the challenges and solutions around building WeSIS and how this shaped the “three pillar” RDM strategy of the second phase.

Dr. Nils Düpont arbeit als Postdoc im
SFB 1342: "Globale Dynamik der Sozialpolitik" (Projekt INF) und ist dabei an der Entwicklung von WeSIS (Welfare State Information System) beteiligt, ein umfassendes interaktives, webbasiertes Informationssystem zu globalen Entwicklungsdynamiken von Sozialpolitik. Darüber hinaus unterstützen er die Forschenden des SFBs im Bereich Forschungsdatenmanagement. Nils hat in Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Greifswald promoviert.
WANN UND WO?
Das lunch-and-learn Event wird in hybrider Form von 12-12:30 Uhr im MZH und via Zoom stattfinden. Es wird einen 20-minütigen Impuls-Beitrag mit anschließender Möglichkeit für Fragen und Diskussionen. Vor Ort haben wir eine extra halbe Stunde (also bis 13 Uhr) für den persönlichen Austausch zu dem Vortrag, allgemeinen Data Science Aspekten oder unseren Services eingeplant.

WARUM EINE FDM-SPECIAL EDITION?
FDM ist für alle datenintensiv Forschenden wichtig, denn es bildet die Grundlage für Data Science. Auch fordern immer mehr Forschungsförderer konkrete Angaben zum Datenmanagement bei der Beantragung von Drittmitteln. Die DFG hat ihre Anforderungen hierzu beispielweise erst kürzlich konkretisiert und macht Angaben zum Umgang mit Forschungsdaten in Verbund- und Einzelanträgen nun verpflichtend (siehe
Meldung vom 14. März ). Eine nachhaltige FDM-Strategie ist somit entscheidend für den Erfolg von Anträgen und Forschungsprojekten. In der FDM-Edition stellen wir unterschiedliche Unterstützungsangebote und Aktivitäten der U Bremen im Bereich FDM vor, die Forschende nutzen können, um in der Antragsphase aber auch forschungsbegleitend ein nachhaltigen FDMs bestmöglich umzusetzen.
